Given the right foods and nutrients, your body has a remarkable capacity for optimising and maintaining itself.
Nutritional Therapy uses an evidence-based scientific approach to understand how your diet, lifestyle, biochemical and genetic individuality combine to determine your overall health and well-being.
Modern day living brings stress, pollution and sub optimal diet, all of which conspire to deplete us of essential nutrition and disrupt the natural equilibrium within our bodies.
Left unchecked, the systems within the body can become depleted, resulting in a host of health complaints. Symptoms tell us that one or more of the bodies systems is out of balance.
What are your symptoms telling us about your underlying systems?
The Functional Medicine Model sits at the heart of the Nutritional Therapy process. This maps the key physiological systems within the body (e.g. digestion, detoxification, immune defence, hormonal communication, cardiovascular and nervous systems) helping me to map which of your body systems are out of balance and where to focus dietary and life-style interventions specifically for you.
Nutritional Therapy works by identifying and addressing the causes of imbalance rather than suppressing the symptoms.
Nutritional Therapy is complementary, meaning that I endeavour to work alongside any advice given to you by your GP and other health care professionals as appropriate so that your health and well-being remains firmly at the forefront of the process.
Because each of us is biochemically and genetically individual, functional laboratory testing is a powerful tool that can be used to more accurately determine biochemical and nutritional imbalances specific to you. I will only recommend functional testing when I believe that this will usefully inform the therapeutic process by helping to pinpoint specific imbalances and nutritional deficiencies.
Here are some questions I am frequently asked
Frequently asked questions
Your needs are placed firmly at the centre of the process and hence I work at your pace and with your reality. The number of follow-up consultations depends on what you require. Some people request my support to check their current approach to nutrition and to address minor imbalances and may only require a small number of sessions. Others come to me with a chronic health picture and hence may require on-going sessions for between 6-12 months. At the initial booking call, I will give you an estimate of how many sessions I think you are likely to need, but ultimately the choice is yours.
I am always very happy to work with couples. A key factor underpinning the success of Nutritional Therapy recommendations is the client being able to integrate these into their home setting. Working with partners can genuinely support this process. Please contact me to discuss the best approach and to agree on pricing.
I offer my Dietary Analysis Service to children aged 12 and over. Full Nutritional Therapy sessions are available to clients aged 18 and over.
Most of my work is conducted in my private clinic in Church Crookham which has plenty of parking and has disabled access and bathroom facilities.
I work with you so that you can assemble meals with the optimal balance of macronutrients. As part of this, I provide recipes and a selection of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options. I do not, however, provide a seven-day menu plan.
I am always very happy for clients to bring a partner, family member or friend to the consultation. Two sets of ears is usually better than one. If you are bringing someone from your household this can help with supporting the implementation of recommendations at home.
There is no obligation to have laboratory tests. I will only recommend functional testing when I believe that this will usefully inform the therapeutic process by helping to pinpoint specific imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. Laboratory tests are charged separately.
My primary focus is to help you understand how to optimise the nutrition that you obtain from your food. However, sometimes it may be beneficial to complement your diet with one or more therapeutic grade supplements to achieve your health goals. You would need to purchase these supplements.
Nutritional Therapy is complementary meaning that I endeavour to work alongside any advice given to you by your GP and other health care professionals when necessary so that your health and well-being remains firmly at the forefront of the process. It may be appropriate for me to contact your GP but I will always discuss this with you and ensure that you receive a copy of any letters sent.
This will depend on your private health care policy and you should check this with your provider.
