THE CONSULTATION PROCESS
Introductory phone consultation
What happens prior to the consultation?
Once you have booked a consultation, I will send you some documents to complete including a Health Questionnaire and Food and Lifestyle Diary. I ask that you return these forms to me a minimum of three days before our consultation.
- A considerable amount of preparation goes into your case prior to the consultation. I use the Functional Medicine Model to assess the information that you send me to identify likely imbalances. Nutritional Therapy is a complementary therapy whereby I aim to work alongside any advice given to you by your GP and other health providers. Hence it may be appropriate for you to share any key medical information including recent medical tests with me.
- I use a Client Records Management system which ensures that all documents and information that we exchange is completely secure and complies with GDPR regulations.
What happens during the consultation?
The consultation is used to build on this information: I will ask you more questions to establish a comprehensive picture of your health.
- A key element of the consultation involves me explaining my assessment of your overall health and well-being and any likely functional imbalances identified for you.
- I may suggest functional laboratory testing if needed to investigate specific biochemical and nutritional imbalances.
- I will work with you to assess your current nutrition and lifestyle and identify the changes required to support your health objectives. My principal focus is to suggest interventions based on nutrition and lifestyle.
- However, if appropriate to your health objectives, I may suggest therapeutic grade nutritional supplements.
What happens after the consultation?
Following the consultation, you will receive your Personalised Nutritional Therapy Report which will include a summary of the explanations that I shared with you during the consultation alongside suggested interventions including diet, lifestyle and where applicable supplements.
- If functional laboratory tests are appropriate for you, these will be arranged.
What happens during follow-up consultations?
Follow-up consultations are typically arranged 4-6 weeks after the initial consultation to assess your progress with the suggested Nutritional Therapy plan and to feedback test results if applicable.
How many sessions will I need?
At the initial booking call, I will give you an estimate of how many sessions I think you are likely to need, but ultimately the choice is yours.
The number of follow-up consultations depends on the client. Some people request my support to check their current approach to nutrition and perhaps address minor imbalances and may only require a small number of sessions. Others come to me with a chronic health picture and hence may require on-going sessions for between 6-12 months.
